Grand Hotel et de Milan

Author hospitality.

Charm of a Milanese home in the celebrity hotel. Since 1863.

Opened in 1863, the Grand Hotel et de Milan has spanned united Italy as an elegant salon where music, politics and culture have met. Giuseppe Verdi stayed here, and even today the echoes of opera resonate in its rooms and restaurants, from Don Carlos, which pays homage to opera with Scaliger sketches and rituals of yesteryear, to the Caruso Nuovo Bistrot, a new Mediterranean soul overlooking Piazzetta Croce Rossa, where cuisine becomes a tale of roots and shared memories. Cherished by three generations of the Bertazzoni family, the hotel combines the charm of a 19th-century mansion with the sartorial care of a restoration that preserves period furnishings, resurgent atmospheres and precious details. Its rooms, like the Verdi, are splendid period frames in a refined retro atmosphere. Sala Puccini is decorated with precious paintings from the Collection of Maria Luigia of Austria; Sala Giordano features wonderful “papier peintre.” The rooms are personalized by five color shades: black cherry red, mustard, eggplant, sugar paper and cocoa. However, the dominant color remains only a trace within which each room fits with its own furnishings, style and epochal reference. In the restaurants, Milanese tradition dialogues with contemporary creativity, while Don Carlos’ wine cellar even holds an ancient Roman wall from 250 AD, a reminder of how much past and present coexist at this iconic address in the city. The Grand Hotel et de Milan is not just a place to stay: it is a piece of urban memory that continues to breathe, transforming with elegance without betraying its roots.
